The Ascophyllum, a very useful seaweed for our furry friends

Ascophyllum nodosum

Who is it?

Ascophyllum nodosum is the brown seaweed par excellence, an aquatic phytotherapeutic superhero that moves and propagates in ocean waters, whose nodes—natural life preservers—allow it to stay afloat. These nodes are veritable treasure chests, containing small portions of the ocean, rich with its trace elements.

The Superpowers

Ascophyllum nodosum is a heroic seaweed that doesn't shy away from grand battles. Its extracts, the core of its superpowers, have been tested as potential inhibitors of cancer cells. Fucoidans, its sulfated polysaccharides, demonstrate anti-thrombotic, anti-angiogenic, and anti-inflammatory activity. They therefore combat the development of new blood vessels from existing ones and the formation of clots in blood vessels. Ascophyllum nodosum has an extremely high dietary fiber content, especially mucilages, oligosaccharides, and also beta-glucans.

And it's precisely its insoluble and resolute fiber that acts like a brush—thanks also to its richness in silicon—cleansing the intestine of bacterial flora, leaving behind mucilage and saccharide content to protect the intestinal mucosa after its passage, acting as an anti-inflammatory, similar to psyllium.

In this way, Ascophyllum nodosum feeds the good saprophytes and nourishes beneficial intestinal flora. This phyto-hero also has anti-inflammatory and antiviral action and induces an immune response, stimulating it like a vaccine against bacteria.

Where to find it

Intestinal Colon Phase 1 and Phase 2 for dogs, Defense Active for dogs, and Intestinal Colon for cats are the places where Ascophyllum nodosum awaits its moment to spring into action.

However, its extraordinary capabilities and organic certification make it an indispensable ally in the Organic Line as well. You'll therefore find it in all dry foods, for dogs: Every Day Bio Vegetal, the vegan option.

The Achievements

At SANYpet – FORZA10, we love to call it Ascophyllum nodosum, but over the years it has also answered to other names, such as: fucus vesiculosus, Quercus Marina (sea oak), rockweed, bladder wrack, sea wrack, kelp seaweed (the name for brown algae), and Bladderwrack. The Greek poet Nicander of Colophon wrote about using fucus vesiculosus against snake bites, while Pliny, who saw similarities with the oak tree, noted its properties for treating goiter.
